Can a standard iPhone's rear camera take decent photographs? Obviously the selfie camera is unusable, but does the picture on the right look like it could have been taken on an iPhone?

It could, but not as a selfie. That's taken from afar in comparison, note there's no noticeable perspective distortion.

They are quite good. They become usable starting with 5 or 6 and only improve with each generation. You will want to pair with with a decent photo app like LR mobile so you can get raw on the older models. My understanding is the newer iphones let you access and use the raw files but I don't know much about the newer apps.

Maybe if it's cropped. One cam is 50mm eq, isn't it? Move the subject a bit back, and it's close. You'd need proper telephoto lenses like the one found in Huawei P40, and Galaxy S20 to get that look without cropping.

Which is the front of your phone?
I’d say the screen side.
But the front camera is on the back of the phone.

Is rear camera good?
Because selfie cam is unusable.

I'm inclined to agree.
OP and ½ the sites out there seem to disagree.

distortion is based on distance from the subject, not focal length.

You should make it clear that the pic shows how it looks when you fill the frame with the subject at different focal lengths, otherwise it's going to make OP confused.

I don't have an iPhone but a Pixel 4a which is seen as having a camera on par with the iPhone.
The only issue really is the super wide angle (any magnification is digital) and of course low light which also is 100% compensated for digitally. However in broad daylight you can perfectly shoot nice photos using this camera, it's actually amazing.
