I'm in the mountains, so most decent shots are long range views, rarely is the lightshow close by (or it's too close).
As for the brightness, it's amazing how much detail you can find when editing. Pic sample related. In jpg the details would have been toast, but RAW lets me recover the thin bolts overpowered by the flash. YMMV.
