I played around with this one myself a little bit...
Hideous looking building, but it's interesting I guess. I wanted the sky to pop and the umbrella on the left to be less distracting from its original hazard-yellow.

I'm unaware of what that accessory is, but thanks for the tip. Thats a great sun photo.
I'm going to try shooting some night sky shots as soon as I have a few nights away from the city.

Can the sun damage the image sensor during shots unfiltered?

absolutely, the sun will burn a hole in your sensor, shutter, aperture blades and anything where the lens focuses. pic related. apply filter before pointing at the sun.
my accessory is a sheet of solar film stuck to packing foam (about $5), but you can easily spend $100+ on a legit screw on filter.

I have a pro master JGX prime uv filter on both the lenses I've been using. Can I snapshit sun rises/sets without nuking muh gear like that?
Asking for a friend...

I'm not looking to shoot direct shots for astronomical images, etc. Just the usual beginner shit.

Sunset is ok even with a lot longer lenses than 70mm. Basically if you can look at the sun, sensor and lens will take it. You can still get away with it shooting directly in the noon on brief exposure, and with small aperture on wide to normal lenses. f18 at least, if not lower. Just be extra careful with mirrorless cameras. Aperture does not close until you press the shutter, so just pointing the lens at the camera will be as if pointing with the lest wide open.

I just changed the contrast and exposure a bit for you to bring out some detail.

I reckon about 10-15ft right and 15-20 back, then zoom in a bit to cut out the LH tree and umbrella.
But who knows what will be in the way then.
The whole thing looks like something you'd shoot at your friend in Mario Kart.
Also, give this a demo.
SHOOT RAW WHEN YOU USE IT.

Here's the interface.
You can load up a ton of free presets to use as a starting point, then fine tune from there.
It might seem lazy, but it is... less time at the computer is better.
Also you buy it once and it's yours. Regular updates, and you can do some cool shit with it.

This is why you shoot RAW by the way.
I've been doing screenshots, then screenshots of screenshots, and you'll see the trees are getting a bit funky.
This won't happen with RAW.

Try cutting these numbers down....
1/250 sec (or auto - Use A mode, 90% of people use this as default.)
f/8
ISO 100-200 (or again, Auto in Aperture mode)
Relying on the auto mode with RAW, the only thing you can't change later is your focus, and any motion blur/freeze from shutter speed.
Lets you focus more on composition.
