My whole point by posting the photo is to show that one of the techniques for taking sunset photos, or high dynamic range photos where the sky is significantly brighter than another part of the scene, that is, by exposing for the sky and then lifting the shadows in post, is something you can do with some other cameras, namely Nikon and Sony, or a modern Canon, but you're hamstrung on a Canon 5DII due to this fact of how the sensor works. HDR would actually have been the proper technique I should have used, albeit the dynamic water surface would have complicated it a little.
