the trick is to be 1-2 generation behind and buying used

that way you can be amazed by clean iso 6400 for $200 today and be flabbergasted by iso51200 and IBIS in a couple year, for another 2-300

Ok. I'm looking for a camera that I can take everywhere and is just a solid all round camera. I'll be taking photos of buildings, street stuff and anything else I find wandering around. I don't really want to carry around multiple lenses.

The Canon is a 1.5 inch sensor. The GR is crop sensor.

Oh you're right, I forgot the G1X II has a smaller sensor. So it's either G1X III with APS-C, worse optics and less zoom or G1X II with more zoom, more aperture and smaller sensor.
I wish one could get the G1X II optics on the G1X III.

Is Nikon D500 good? I mostly shoot landscapes, portraits, street and night photos. I've heard the D500 its the best when it comes to cropped sensors. Also it looks like it has a good battery life.
Would a D500 with a Sigma 17-70mm be a good choice?

hey anon d500 owner here
i got it to replace myo d5300
its a pretty great camera for shooting action, the autofocus system is incredible, and as far as the noise performance on a crop sensor its superb
only issue i ran into it was getting shots wide enough, used a sigma 17-50 f2.8 for a bit but youre better off using D glass, like a 24mm f2.8 is pretty cheap and worth, or the 35mm f1.8 dx is another great lense for the 50mm eq

I don't shoot landscapes but it is a pretty chonky camera, basically the size of a ff camera if youre planning to hike with it. built like a tank shell though. If you're sure about crop sensor then you really can't go wrong with it.
