Oversharpening with software that's optimised for a different filter array.
Shame on fuji and Adobe for not incorporating optimised algos for their filter array.
But any photo - especially from a Bayer sensor - will look like shit when oversharpened to such an extent. Maybe marginally less shit with typical bayer array when not using the manufacturer software I guess?

That's not what worm noise is.
It comes from the demosaicing not the sharpening.

I have both Capture One and Lightroom and LR does have worms. They're noticeable at higher ISOs but not a huge deal. You have to zoom in to really notice it. Capture One seems like it's processing the X-Trans better but it smooths over the image a bit while LR retains a bit more detail.

They don't. The xtrans (which is what gives the "worms") is a different filter array than "normal" Bayer. Still same idea, different implementation.

fuji sensors are just shit and need weird demosaicing to produce even tolerable results in high contrast fine detail areas so worms are a common side effect since they do all kinds of funky shit with adjacent pixels to cope with the shit sensor design

Raw in OP is fine. No worms at all. What the FUCK did you do while processing, and why? Why does it not look like this? You're doing it wrong.

I scan film with a Fuji and you can see worms if you punch in a fuckton and oversharpen it. Pic related, taken at base ISO, 90 sharpening, 0 noise reduction.

Anyways, X-Trans is designed to have better looking grain, whether you think that's a good thing or not. Just use Capture One and the worms go away completely.
