And you know, for alot of use cases / casual photography, phones have come a long way in terms of resolution and overall image quality!
However, the physical limitations of a small sensor does result in some shortcomings.
For one, 'superzoom cellphones' don't resolve images as well as cameras with larger optics at larger focal lengths at 100mm+
Second, larger sensors are able to gather more light in! Phones on tripods with extended shutter times can compensate for this, but for capturing movement in tough lighting conditions, most phones just can't keep up.
Pic related, think of all the blurry/grainy social media photos taken at concerts from cell phones.
However, for wide angle street photography, casual partiture and still life (just to name a few categories), a good photographer can take great images that look good on social media or some web applications.
That being said, when it comes to making prints, 'full sized' cameras tend to win out in resolution and image quality when printed.
