Keep the vintage lens meme in mind. I felt for it, threw some vintage on my mirrorless. The ones I had didnt have "character," they were terrible. Good vintage lens is a necessity. Or a modern lens on 35.

anybody know where i can get a 16mm film grain look for premiere for free? I see film pack sets being advertised and they look really neat, makes me want to go back to DSLR video again if the results look like what i see but i dont want to pay for it.

Most attempts to recreate 800T in digital miss the point. Or at least why I like it. The color balance makes shadows colder while the halation effect warms up the whites. The visible halation in the highlights I don’t really care for and usually doesn’t add much to an image. Most simulations go for a grungy green underexposed look and then just slap some red blur on the highlights.

Hard to say, depends on the application. If we're talking best APS-C for still photography then it would be Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Ricoh for me. The M6 II and 90D will even beat the highest resolution full frame offerings by Nikon and Sony for wildlife and sports.

Halation has nothing to do with your backplate.

Halation cannot prevented in camera, because the light reflects back and diffuses towards the emulsion when it's exiting the acetate because of the abrupt disruption. You can only prevent halation by absorbing the photons within the film. The light is not reflecting off of your baseplate, its reflecting off of the air in between.

the M62 and the 90D are the same cameras in different bodies with a different lens mount and external features

90D is pro-sumer weather proof, LP-E6 batts, flippy screen, digic8, digital IS, 4k vid, OVF, EF mount, touchscreen, DSLR

M62 is smaller, kind of flippy screen, EVF with better system for AF, EFM mount

they're 33 Mp cropped

Breathing on the lens can work for some pics, but I found it's prone to horrible color artifacts when pointed at lights. This might look neat of course, but it's useless if you want a neutral foggy look.

32MP in an APS-C sized sensor. That's higher pixel density than even MFT's highest resolution offerings. And to top it off, DPAF (all photosites collaborate with the picture while also providing phase detection AF). The competition has lower resolution and pixels dedicated exclusively to AF duty.
Right now no one can touch those Canons for long-distance photography.
