I do shoots for older/overweight women kinda regularly. I approach them the same way I do hotties.
1: Most women have similar insecurities regardless of age, weight, etc.
2: All have an instinctual desire to be desired.
3: They can smell bullshit better than you think.
I ask them what their favorite and least favorite parts of their body are.
I ask them what makes them feel sexy, or what was the sexiest thing they ever did.
I tell them that the purpose of the photos is to make them feel sexy, because their partner will buy into it regardless. If they feel sexy they will go home and let their partner fuck them silly.
As for actual technical skills,
Gravity is your downfall never let boobs/ stomach dangle. Use arms/pillow or whatever to support and curve.
Your light can never be soft enough.
Less is more in touchups.
Lace is a pain? Go for smooth stains and silks in solid patterns.
Wearing the hair up slims the neck and cheeks.
Poses are pretty straightforward.
