Olympus tried it with the Olympus Air.
Really, it's just a thing that let you connect a Micro Four Thirds sensor to your phone, and then you could use MFT lenses.
The Air was a miserable failure.

Some Japanese Camera Otakus used it with a Four Thirds adapter to attach the super-telephoto lenses from the Four Thirds system to the Olympus Air cuz MFT is backwards compatible with FT, but only through an adaptor.

Here it is, but with a teleconverter for the FT lens.
If you're wondering, it's the Olympus Zuiko Digital 300mm f/2.8.
The MFT Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 300mm is f/4 by comparison.

Why do they insist on putting the lenses in the corner of the phone, meaning if you're holding it in landscape mode there is a far higher risk of your fingers getting in the way, and to reduce that risk you have to hold the phone less securely? Doesn't lenses in the middle make more sense?

My previous phone had a cantered lens, current one has it in the corner. Honestly I prefer the lens in the corner. Doesn't affect the security of holding it and because the lens is in the very corner it's possible to take pics from very low angles, parallel to the floor your desk or whatever. Surprisingly there is a difference in pics from those angles.
