Is it worth getting a dedicated compact for street photography or would it be wiser to just invest all that money into a good piece of glass?
Right now I have a Nikon D7000 so even if I got a pancake lens that shit is going to stand out and alert a lot of subjects, hence my question

GX800 is tiny. Flip the screen to a 90° angle, put it an the height of your hip and shoot as if you were using a Rolleiflex.

Pair it with a 20mm 1.7/14mm 2.5 lens and you have a better, more reliable tool than anything else for the size.

Don't worry too much about it. As long as you have the focal length you want and a means to controls the variables you need to you'll be fine.

I like the GR because it's a way to put a big sensor in your pocket with a leaf shutter and decent zone focus settings.

I'm not really a street shooter, though. Also, on the very rare occasion that I do, I shoot street with a D800 and a 15mm lens, which is pretty much the opposite of discreet or beta.
