Hi guys. I just bought a SONY Alpha a7 III mirrorless Digital Camera. I paid $2,200 for this camera.

My goal is to start a photography business and start doing photoshoots/videoshoots this year for a little extra cash. I currently know nothing about photography other than the fact that I just paid a lot of money for this camera.

Did I pay too much? Are there better cheaper alternatives out there for me? Should I go return this camera while I still can?

There's no money to be made as a new photographer when we're in the middle of a pandemic.
An advanced body is worthless without the adequate lenses.
The a7 III offers no relevant advantages over the previous, much cheaper model for your supposed application.
The gear that makes the most difference is outside the camera, even more than lenses themselves.
Photoshoots will be worthless if you don't have a proper lighting setup and a good background.

I bought the camera from best buy. I just found the first picture of the a7 on google images.

I bought the camera, i have the lens that comes with it. I have the tripod, the ring light and the SD card. I spent over $2,500 on all of these things together.

I have until the end of the day to return these items for a partial refund.

Should have bought from a photo store with 30 days returns with full refunds like BH or any other with the same policy. But you fucked up. Tripod is fine, ring light probably fine too. But you should have got a f/2.8 24-70 lens if you're going to do this to make money shooting weddings or whatever, and you should have got at the very least a flash and light modifiers. The body isn't nearly as important as the rest.
For studio shooting you should get at least 3 flashes and a way to trigger them all simultaneously. Also some backdrops. Paper is cheapest.
Was this an impulse buy on the spot or something? It boggles my mind that someone would just go and blow 2.2k on a camera without at least researching a bit before.

Also I just looked into it on BH and the cheapest you can get is apparently the Sigma 24-70mm DG OS HSM Art when it comes to high quality stabilized lenses. There's no native version for Sony but Sigma themselves offer a kit with adapter for Sony E for $1108 when buying the EF mount lens. A no-brainer if you ask me, the EF lens without the adapter is $1099.
Then you need a body to use with it. Canon EF or Sony E will do (or Canon RF with the corresponding adapter I suppose, but check in case they broke the compatibility with the new mount).
Sony A7 II and Canon 6D II are both around $1400. You could also get a Canon RP for $1000 but it's entry level and the sensor is worse as a result.
Any of those combinations will have you in a better place for shooting events than what you have now. Then spend some money in spare batteries, you can buy off-brand but look at the reviews to avoid getting shitty batteries that last nowhere near the original.
There's an even cheaper 24-70mm f/2.8 by Tokina but it's not stabilized. $649 for Canon EF. I'd recommend getting the Sigma instead.
A viable alternative would be to rent gear if you find the lens prices too steep.
Was the kit you bought one of those box kits from the manufacturer or were you billed separately for the body and the lens? You could always keep the body and return the lens if that were the case. That way you take a softer hit.

2.8 zooms can be seen as investing in the future but there are plenty of good zooms out there with variable apertures. If OP wants to do cut rate weddings I'd suggest getting mid range zooms and a good macro 100mm or 105mm for FF or 60mm for APS-c because it will double as a bokeh whore portrait and close up for ring shots. If he is going to do real estate walkthroughs like every other asshole with a camera, then an ultra wide like 17-35 FF or 10-22 crop

It was definitely an impulse buy, I guess I should tell you all the full story.

So this girl I wanted to fugg came to me and asked me to help her record videos for her onlyfans she just started. I lied and pretended I was a real cameraman. She believed me and so I ran to the nearest store and bought the most expensive camera to impress the bitch. At the time I didn't know about the "Restocking" fee.

I did get to fugg and get some nice nude videos of her (which she thinks I am editing right now) so I guess it was worth it. To be fair I ran the same game on some other onlyfans thot and she's coming to do the exact same thing.

Obviously at this point I want to keep up this charade and who knows? Maybe this turns into a legitimate thing for me, still, no reason to pay more for a camera than what I need right? I'm sure these bitches will be impressed with whatever I shove in their faces.

Make sure you wear a rubber in the future.
If all you plan to do is onlyfans type stuff you don't really need to return what you have, a f/2.8 lens would help you with wedding photography and other types of photography where you need the low light capabilities and it extending on the wide end to 24mm helps with getting shots in more enclosed spaces or getting shots of bigger backgrounds, for example a building.

also if he wants to be shooting for money, at his stage he will not be earning enough to justify all of the added costs of a FF body and lenses.
I would compare it to my own position with MF, I have a D800 but about once a year or so a job comes my way that needs higher resolution files. I'm not going to run out buy a Phase One, so I either put the rental cost in my quote, ask the client to provide the camera (let them rent it) or pass on the job.

if OP has an unlimited budget (I doubt he does), he is better off getting a mid range APS-c body, a range of lenses, and a flash, than a body and single lens.

This is a great camera for stills and video, definitely worth the money over the previous generation, I would highly recommend getting a high quality lens ASAP, the Sony 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 are both fantastic relatively cheap lenses to get you started. Soak up all the knowledge of the basics you can off youtube and PRACTICE everyday, the money will come if you make yourself known to a target demographic, you'll succeed if you put in the work :)

Sure Sony makes a pro sensor but they put it in a disposable body with shit electronics. For example canon or nikon FF bodies have surge protections on their flash shoe / sync, sony does not and you can fry your camera if your flash sends a back surge. Canon and Nikon also have better weather sealing in their higher end bodies, Pentax even puts it in their beginner bodies. Sony bodies are also just flimsy compared to their direct canon nikon counterparts.

Not to mention lenses. Canon nikon have a much greater selection of lenses, better lenses, and a huge availability of used lenses. either system you can get a lesser body to start and invest in good lenses that will go forward as you advance.
Sure sony can use adapters but it is a shitty solution. the only worth wile adapter is the speed booster but even then they are stupid expensive and APS-c only.
