When discussing gear there are two different aspects:
>capabilities>technical qualityThe former is far more important than the latter.
An example:
A Yongnuo 50 mm f/1.8 (cheapest autofocus 50 mm I have ever used) is great for portraits because on a cropsensor it's:
>short telephoto>wide apertureBut from a technical perspective it's pretty bad:
>lens shakes in its barrel>has noticeable chromatic abberations>not the sharpest lensI still recommend it for everyone that gets into photography.
For a cropsensor you want:
>kit lens with image stabilisation>YN35/2 normal lens>YN50/1.8 portrait lens>tripod>external flash>ND8 filter>polarizing filterBeyond that, you usualy need an actual reason to buy more gear.
