so
I just got me a Zorki-1, haven't shot any rolls with it yet
But a question popped into my head: what's the fastest shutter speed anyone actually needs? The zorki has a max shutter speed of 1/500, but I'm hardpressed to think of a situation where I would genuinely need a shutter speed of 1/2000 or higher. I'm also a complete amateur so I can be totally wrong.

Who knows, really. Depends on the photographer. It's about freezing motion and reducing shake.
Likely irrelevant with your camera as you won't likely be using telephotos that would benefit from reduced shake. For freezing motion you could use a flash, assuming the camera can trigger one.

If you want to shoot with a wide aperture to get shallow depth of field out on a sunny day.

Sunny-16 rule says that if it's sunny, the right exposure at f/16 is 1/[iso]. So if you're using ISO 400 film, 1/400th of a second at f/16.

If you want to shoot at f/2.8 for some creamy bokeh, we adjust the shutter up:
f/16 @ 1/400th
f/11 @ 1/800th
f/8 @ 1/1600th
f/5.6 @ 1/3200th
f/4 @ 1/6400th
f/2.8 @ 1/12800th

Even if you have ISO 100 film in there, getting down to f/2.8 will take you to 1/3200th. If you want some *seriously* shallow depth of field with an f/1.4 or brighter lens, that'll need even higher shutter speeds.

I have a 100 ISO roll of film loaded and my maximum aperture is 3.5
If I'm out and it¡s sunny then there's no hope for me if I want some of that creamy bokeh

Again, slap a ND filter on the camera and use slow film. Will you be using the f/3.5 lens from the picture?

yeah, I'll be sure to post the results here when I end up developing and scanning the film. This stuff is very expensive and I can't afford to be shooting all the time.

I just checked and the Industar 22 uses push-in filters. You'll have to see if you can find a ND filter with the right amount of stops. Maybe there's some adapter from push-in to threaded?

don't "slap" an nd filter on this camera dude just take some goddamn photos. film is surprisingly tolerant of overexposure. that camera takes awesome photos. limitations and quirks are what using old cameras is all about. fuck that retarded marshmallow who keeps talking about his filters and F1 racing. he likely doesn't shoot anything like this.

highly prefer the grandpa's camera for street photography. way more fun to shoot, and for some reason i have more balls with this thing than with a digifat. more confidence in my shots for some reason. i love all the flaws and the dirt and scratches. overexposure and grain aren't things to avoid. no regrets but damn
