As an aside, digital can and does look fantastic in the right hands. CMOS is fine. Bayer is fine.
You don't need to justify spending any amount of money on gear. If you want to use a $400 DSLR, that's fine. If you want to spend thousands for a hobby that's also fine. People spend tens of thousands on things like modding their cars and make no money from it. Why should someone who wants and can afford more expensive gear have to spend less because they're not profiting from it? They shouldn't.
Video shouldn't be such a big focus of still cameras. Hybrid shooting is a meme and clients who ask for it should get charged more for a proper video camera alongside a stills one. The form factor of stills bodies is just too limiting.
Photography can be art but doesn't have to be. Art is not an honorific term. There is good art and bad are but it's all still art.
