What cameras use sensors from other brands? I found some info but its like 8 years old. Specifically, I was surprised that Leica and Panasonic were in a partnership, and I believe Sony lends out their sensors but I couldn't verify to which shop

Every current crop and full frame ilc except Leica and canon uses Sony sensors. Canon use their own (most of the time, they've started using Sony too now though) and Leica uses cmosis.

That's it. That's every major camera on the market. And that's why canon and Sony are the only 2 prominent brands right now - and will be for the foreseeable future.

It's inevitable with the way things are heading due to digital. Look at the computer processor market, it only supports a duopoly (of which for decades AMD was only there to stop a monopoly).
The problem is you can't engineer you way out of a bad sensor. Ultimately it takes billion $ investment to get the chips right which a smaller company cannot fork.

Digital cameras are also nothing but some assembled parts with a casing. In theory a new company could stand up today, shop around at Sony and a few others and have a camera by the end of the year.

That's literally what Nikon, Fuji, Pentax and Panasonic do. Most of their models even use Sony rear screens and evf screens too.

Sony don't, Sony make all the parts in their cameras apart from the ram chips and basic components (caps, resistors, inductors) afaik. Which is why they can have such an expansive product range with such frequent updates and still undercut everyone else.

Pretty sure the sensors on MFT and L mount cameras aren't by Sony. At one point Panasonic themselves made the MFT sensors (for Olympus too), not sure if it's still the case though.
