This board is very stuck up, everyone likes gear and denies it vehemently at the same time, and the 1000px rule makes no sense whatsoever since years ago. As far as skill sharing, there is none, /rpt/ is full of "I like it" and "it's trash" with no particular conflict or detailed criticism. Other threads likewise are mini-photobooks with a little feedback at most. I'm convinced that the "talented photographer" is merely a troll that has recognized this. No one really cares what photos in those threads look like. There is a list of guides in the wiki that no one has read (can we get the fucking dinosaur from /fit/ into there?) with barely more depth than Toneh's book. On the board itself, the references to design, composition and post processing techniques are very few and never go in depth. At worst you will claim that they are present through looking at others' photos. Bullshit, no one can really learn things they don't have a name for from just that, especially because of the talented photographer and other like him.
That's my core complaint, the board yearns for skills it cannot even name. It's rare for terms like "visual weight" to even drop in conversation.
Go look at a healthy board like /k/ to gauge how the balance between gear discussion and skill discussion should look like.
At least we have finally recently discovered something /p/ hates more than gear
