>>3823007Their medical division could be spun off.
But with competition from Fujifilm in the world of Computer Tomography, Olympus and Zeiss in the world of microscopes and opthalmology....
Nikon don't even have much of a fallback plan.
According to the OM Digital Solutions CTO, the Olympus camera division actually asked to be sold off to JIP because Olympus was restructuring its business to focus on its medical imaging stuff and surgical instruments.
The camera division gets to survive and avoid restructuring and can promote people who like cameras and photography into high up positions, instead of having consultant surgeons take over.
Nikon could go this way, but at the same time... Nikon isn't the market leader in medical imaging, nor is it dominant for optics like microscopes and sports telecopes.
There's not a lot that can be done to really "save" Nikon. If it were me... I'd double down on Z mount and start discontinuing F-Mount.
Of course, there is another way. Specifically, diversify - become a 3rd party lens maker, like Sigma, and embrace the dominance of Sony E Mount, offer options for L Mount and RF Mount, and maybe cut down on Z cameras to a few models.
