Have any of you made money flipping camera gear?

I have found some minor success in the ”prosumer” or ”enthusiast” category, where the owners don’t necessarily know the market price. Canon’s X0D lineup is a prime example, so are 50mm primes.

yes, picked up a camera and 4 lenses off Gumtree, sold one of the lenses for more than the whole package, sold another lens and the camera body, about $220 profit so far, still another decent lens i could sell once i'm done using it and the 4th is a writeoff due to fungus

A lot of people on places like Facebook market place will offload gear for a discount if you can get it off their hands asap. I actually pick up gear this way.

I have. Keep dates in mind, typical paydays for buyers (Thu/Fri), tax time for sellers, Xmas, etc. People get desperate for money the same times every year. Makes it easy to undercut their offers lol.

Absolutely. You can get the best deals late in the month from ads that have been up for a long time.

If it's a niche thing that I know nobody will buy, I sometimes wait to send an offer on purpose to make them desperate to sell the thing already and give me a good price.

I make a few thousand a year in profits flipping gear. I get to try new lenses and cameras out in the process which is fun. What's not to love about that?
