When I was about 16 or 17 I saved up a few months' worth of wages and bought a REALLY nice pair of leupold binoculars. Porroprism, waterpoof, the works.
Because i was going to use them for both astronomy and hunting, I decided to get them in camouflage. They were amazing. Edge-to-edge sharpness, no chromabs, you could spot movement from miles away. The first big hunting trip, I proudly carried my binoculars everywhere. I was the spotter, with the binoculars glued to my face scanning trees, shrubs, bushes. On the third or fourth day, we were found some elk downhill. We got really excited and lost in the moment, and at some point, I took my binoculars off my neck and set them on a rock so I could shoulder my black powder rifle. Minutes passed, and my uncle finally took a shot. We missed, but at least we knew there were animals in those woods.
I turned around and the fucking goddamned camouflage on my binoculars worked TOO well. I spent three hours spiraling further and further out looking for my binoculars and never fucking found them. They were lost, perfectly hidden in plain sight. Every couple of years I'll still drive by that spot and look, but they're likely long gone.
Long story short, don't camouflage expensive shit. You're going to set it down to take a shit or accidentally drop it and then you will never, ever find it again.
