OP Here,
Wow! What a reception. They say good art is meant to illicit an emotional response from the viewer, so I guess I succeeded there. However, for the artist, the presence of the emotion is not what's important, it's the why.
Let's break this down, why such a negative emotional response?
1. The lack of exif data? The white border app I used seemed to have stripped the exif, no matter to me, but I guess it inhibits your ability to judge me and my work based on my gear.
2. The low resolution? Having access to full res photos for which you've become accustomed to zoom at 1000% (pixel peep I believe they call it) further allowing you to judge a photo on minutely esoteric level instead of as a whole (which would take some actual culture and education).
3. The most important of all, the actual contextual meaning of the art. As humans it's often hard to look inward and reflect on the negative aspects of our existence, which this collection highlights, doing so often sparks a subconcious fear response which manifests in an outward negative emotional response we're observing here.
Very fascinating.
