I don't search for validation or whatever, I perceive the culture of dumping garbage and doing mental gymnastics about "visual illiteracy" to justify it to be detrimental to the board. Call me an armchair janny if you want.

Reminded me of someone getting mad at some guy's video because they felt it mocked his style, but in /p/'s case I believe the poster was targeting isi, Romeguy and others. I believe most users including myself found his set funny, but the ones being made the butt of the joke didn't.
