They tried to do too much with the technology of the time. And no mirror lock-up built-in, what were they thinking? For good reason it's now one of the cheapest west-Euro 6x6 cameras. 6000 series are great though and still a decent value.
I remember reading about that agreement. The SL66 was another camera which just tried to do too much and it was an overengineered, heavy beast. I think it was actually more expensive than the Hassy at the time too, which already had an established market.
I sometimes wonder why their Singaporean 35mm SLR line from the 70s was more popular. Of course the Rollei 35 was very popular, but SLRs not so much despite being comparable in price and quality with the Japanese ones. Supposedly they had too much manufacturing capability for their sales, but that explanation seems incomplete. Mismanagement perhaps?
