Sony isn't all that bad. They just fucked up with Betamax, Digital Audio Tape, MiniDisk, Memory Stick and, uh... their whatever the fuck arrangement they had with Ericsson.
Sony doesn't know how to make a format good, unless it's Blu Ray, in which case it knows how to make a format that loses them money on every purchase.
Let's cut Sony some slack - Sony VHS based VCRs were good, the original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 were good, Sony hi-fis were good and Vaio laptops were beastly windows machines for their era.
Of course... cassette tape is obsolete, the PS3 was an expensive turd, the 4 was ok, idk about 5, Sony barely make any good audio equipment anymore and Vaio is now a mediocre JIP brand.
Sony alpha was less about making good cameras, and more taking control of patents owned by Konica Minolta, and trying to corner the market in video, where the real money is. Much like how Sony tried to corner the market with audio equipment, and is now very dominant in the music industry.
