Not always possible.
I suppose it depends on whether you're using a tripod or not, whether you have a long lens or a short lens, whether you're using a macro lens or not...
I suppose it all depends on all the factors you have for the shot, but certainly a mitigating factor would be the bokeh, and specifically how blurred the object is.
I've gotten really good effects using a macro lens and close focussing at about 1:2 and 1:3 reproduction ratio, at f/4-5.6 on a micro four thirds camera, and of course people love to shit on mft DoF, but I've seen some less than fantastic bokeh from full frame users.
Idk... just do what you can with what you have in front of you. Sometimes you get lucky and get a wonderful image.
