Which is the smallest FF I could currently buy? Thinking of Sony A7, Sigma FP and EOS RP. I am leaning towards the Sony because it has all the affordable third party lenses and the sensor is good enough. I don’t care about the Slow af or the clunky menu system. Also it’s cheap. Sigma has no mechanical shutter and the RP has only expensive lenses. Are there others?

Realistically the Sony A7C is your best bet.

The Sigma FP is the smallest full frame yeah, but it's a colossal hunk of shit as a stills camera, it's a dedicated video camera more so.

EOS RP is also not too big but the lenses available for it aren't very small.

I have a D600 which I am trying to sell and which taught me that I dislike heavy cameras. A7 + Samyang 35 2.8 is lighter than the D600 by itself. A7C is a Dream which has to wait 2-3 years

You can compare sizes (including with lenses) on camerasize.com.

FP's the smallest, but it sucks if what you're wanting is a stills camera. It's really designed for video, not still photography, and it shows.

The A7 line and the RP are about the same size. I personally hate the interface/controls on the A7II (and by extension, probably the A7), but I've never tried an A7III and it might not suck so much. I've also never tried an EOS RP, but I have a hell of a lot more faith in Canon to design a usable camera than I do Sony based on all of the camera gear I've used.

The size difference between all of the mirrorless FF bodies (even between the worlds-smallest FP and the biggest ones like the A1 and Nikon Z7) is pretty negligible based on the numbers, and even more so based on actual usage, so I'd really recommend getting one that's got good usability rather than trying to shave a couple of millimeters off of your kit.

Oh i see, well yeah the Sony A7 is not that different from the A7C size wise, and you can get it for 400-500 USD on some forums.

I also disliked heavy cameras, got an MFT camera, APS-C then Full Frame, i think even if it's heavy, not having the giant foot print of a DSLR will aid you more towards the fatigue of holding one.

don't, you're looking for an excuse to buy new tech, you won't feel any different in the long run esp since your sony kit will be front heavy, this is from first hand experience, i much prefer my old d700, does everything i need and really isn't that heavy

Yeah but for the Sony I can get the Tamron or Sigma 2.8 zoom. There is no such lens on Nikon. The lightest standard zoom is the 25-85 VR, and it’s like two stops slower. Granted it has 24mm at the wide end and VR, but still...

First bump in size was for the new battery (introduced in the A7iii I think?) and then again for the A9ii/A7r4 for the new more ergonomic design with improved weather sealing. I'd expect the A7iv to be the same size as both of those, with the A1 being very slightly thicker than all of them still

I think the bigger reason was the addition of in-body stabilization. Putting the sensor on a moving platform, which needs space to wiggle, plus the motors to drive it, plus control electronics for those motors, is why the A7II is thicker than the A7 even though those models use the same battery. Comparatively, the A7III is almost exactly the same size as the A7II but has the bigger FZ100 battery.

Similar story with the crop cameras in >>3846524: The A6000 doesn't have IBIS, but the 6500 and 6600 do.

I would be happy if you could name a few. The ones I found, like the Sigma 24-105 4.0 or the tamron 24-70 2.8 are pretty heavy (800g and more). Also the Nikon 24-120 is pretty hefty. There is also a lot of older Nikon Glas, but apparently it works better on film than on digital.

The only lens similar to the new Sigma 28-70 is the old Tamron 28-75 2.8 (non VC), but that one also seems to be rather bad. Thanks!

fine you dimwit, it's more comfortable and safer to hold the heavier end of the object while walking due to torque, that's why when you have a huge telephoto lens on you mount the lens not the camera, so the mount doesn't break; similarly your fingers will start to hurt if a 24-70 on an a7c is dangling down-as opposed to a 24-70 on a dslr with even weight or body-biased weight (closer to your hand) which means less to drag for your fingers and more to grip evenly with your hand.

Every EF lens works on the RP just as well as on an EF DSLR. Even with the added size of the adapter there are some small/lightweight EF lens configurations with the RP.

That said I think you should carefully consider why you want FF if you want small, and I'm a FF fan. If you're going to stick with small lenses then you are sacrificing low light ability and Toneh. Might as well look at an EOS M body with the 22mm f/2 or with one of the kit zooms that has IS. Nothing FF is going to come close to matching them on size.
