>>3848745>so expensiveAround the time normies started getting smartphones instead, the camera manufacturers concluded that only 2 kinds of people are going to want to buy an ILC system:
1. Professional photographer, who can write off camera gear as expenses, or may even have their camera gear bought for them by their employer via supply contracts
2. Old men using their retirement money to get into a hobby, that they end up not really doing much with, because they just bought a 2-3kg body and lens combination that hurts their neck while their joints turn to dust
30-40 years ago, this really wasn't the same case, particularly since there was no such thing as a smartphone, and most people had to rely on 135 or maybe 120 film for all their shots. ILC cameras were common enough, and there was a market for affordable bodies and lenses. The ongoing costs of consumables like film were ultimately trivial due to the fact that you could find film in any supermarket, convenience store and pharmacy. That, and film development was also every fucking where.
These days, normies look at you weird when you start mentioning raw image formats, and also look at you weird when you talk about lenses, and how shocked they seem to be that lenses don't come with the camera - they perceive it as a "rip-off".
