>>3858512Well... The Toyota Yaris was Europe's 4th best selling car in Europe.
Number 1 was the Peugeot 208, 2 was the Peugeot 2008, 3 was the VW Golf.
I'm not saying that Europe is exactly like Japan in its tastes, but to say that Europe isn't full of Japanophiles is also inaccurate.
Btw, that Toyota Yaris is like to 99% the same spec car between Japan and Europe. There are a few modifications for European road safety regulations...
And it's the same kind of deal for consumer electronics and medical equipment. The only exception would be laptops, where Toshiba are the only presence - HP and Dell maintain a big presence there. Fujitsu and Panasonic aren't really present outside of Japan. Televisions are a big fight between the Japanese brands of Toshiba, Sharp, Sony and Panasonic vs the South Koreans with Samsung and LG.
With cameras, the argument that Olympus is just a bizarre Japanese brand is just not accurate. Olympus has always sold well in Europe. Don't ask me why, because I don't know why. But it's why OMDS plans to keep its service center in Europe, because there's a large enough user base to keep it profitable.
Canon and Nikon, and also more recently Fujifilm, have all sunk huge amounts of money into marketing and selling their cameras in North America. And while Nikon has ended up in financial trouble, Canon quickly adapted into fields other than cameras - printers, scanners, printing ink... it all keeps Canon rolling in the money.
