It works for certain things but it’s surely abuser. I could see why people would hate it. I know more than a few shooters who if they even ticked the aperture above 2.0 would be shocking. I usually aim for above 4 unless it’s that dark out and I don’t wanna abuse the iso

Alright, you're in luck then, most lenses have this thing called an "aperture" which can be used to control the depth of field

I kind of agree with you.
I don't hate it, but I see where you're coming from.
For my artistic works it doesn't really matter, but honestly, the stuff I enjoy the most I consider more of a naturalist thing. I'm not even going for artistic value, I just want to make a photo of some aspect of nature that is clear and full of detail.

The subject is an apple tree bud that's covered in aphids feasting on the tree's sap.
The image is taken at near 1:1 macro reproduction ratio which gives it this razer thin DoF of about 1mm.
Be thankful this is on a Micro Four Thirds camera, because the aperture at f/5.6 is equivalent to full frame camera at f/11, but without the diffraction that such an aperture on full frame would start to cause.
