Kodachrome was simply one option on the shelf. It existed alongside Ektachrome, Provia, Agfa and Velvia 50 from the late 80s or very early 90s. Kodachrome was the only one that wasn't E6 compatible so you had to wait 7-10 days to get it back as opposed to 2 hours from a local lab. Guess which the pros went for.
Also, towards the end of its life, the colours looked dated. They still look dated you lot are just nostalgic for a time that wasn't yours.
