Sony also do the same with their bodies, shunning the one size fits all model adopted by every other major brand.
If you find you prefer the samyang, sigma, tamron, laowa, voigtlander, Zeiss, etc. 50mm then you have that option too, because Sony were awesome about licensing out their mount, which meant awesome lenses with perfect compatability being released fast, which also meant you could use AF canon lenses on Sony, with faster and more accurate af than their flagship 1dx.
Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Fuji are all fighting for that Apple consumer model, forcing you to buy their products and only in the spec they think you want. Sony have a more Microsoft approach, knowing that the best way to show off their technology is to get as many people working with it as possible, from as varied backgrounds as possible, whilst also offering top tier hardware for those that want it.
