What's double the linear length of 2?
What's double the surface area of something 22?
What's double the volume of something 23?
Now, is a photo a linear length, a surface area or a volume; well done! Now you can work out why double the resolution != Double the height and length.
If you don't follow, you're just thick as shit and probably the product of the American education system.
