I can well imagine that eye control does not need to work accurately, but mainly to direct subject tracking, not necessarily in the sense of selecting small focus areas. Still, as the eye position varies at the viewfinder in portrait format, this works at best so semi with the EOS 30V. Presumably, eye control just raises false expectations again. But this makes more of a buzz among DSLR people than the whole object tracking fuss. So task accomplished, I guess.
