Alright /p/haggots, how the FUCK do I learn how to cull properly & efficiently?
I've been shooting fairly casually for the past 2 - 3 years, but the culling process after each shoot has never gotten any easier. If anything it's gotten much harder with how much more "keepers" I'm getting nowadays vs. when I just started.
Please help me lads.

Go over the same pictures you culled once more, pick what you deep down know are the very best, out of 30 "keepers", after editing and all, only 3-5 are good enough to share.

You should eventually become more selective with what you even shoot to begin with. Then, once you've shot it, stratify what you have: ones that don't work, ones that do work, ones that are good, and ones that you are proud of. Generally, ones you're truly proud of will be rare, something like >>3876657 said.
Say you have 100 shots. If you're like me, 40 - 30 will work, 10 or 15 will be good, and 1 or 2 will be ones you're truly proud of. Then you try to move generally in the direction of the really good ones, and as such you improve and develop your style

HDD's are cheap as fuck, just fill em up
or archive DVD

this. i delete blurry/missed shots but keep everything else, I just quickly tag the ones I feel are good enough to edit. if you have to think about whether your photo is good or not, chances are it isn't.

I just shoot jpg and keep everything.
The majority are shit I don't want to print, but you never know, some day I might need some old shitty image for something.
Some kind of layer overlay or whatever, who knows.

Even if you don't actually delete anything, it's still worthwhile to go through and pick out which ones are good and bad. I think that's moreso what OP is asking about

This is really a very difficult issue. Whenever I show my days worth of shots or whatever to my girlfriend, she always singles out pictures that I'd generally only give like 2 or 3 stars. Obviously you have your own idea of what your best work should be, but it still makes my head spin

Here's another one I took that same day that I'm decently proud of. The composition is better and it captures the empty feeling I wanted to portray, instead of just being "this looks neat"

Use anything that lets you rate images. Rate them * to *** on import. Everything that you think barely usable *. A week/month later go through them again.
