>>3877705>why arent the pictures on the wall bending even a little?Wide angle lenses will distort perspective forward and backwards in the frame. Eg, if something is a little closer, it’ll look MUCH closer. For items that are in pretty much just one plane of focus (eg, pictures in a wall), you won’t see much difference. You can see it a little bit with the top left painting, where its top left corner looks a little bit stretched away from the bottom right, but the effect isn’t nearly as pronounced as with Carter’s feet or Biden vs Carter’s wife.
>>3877486>the photographer should've known that this would happen with a wideangle up close and people *not* on the same line and same distance from the camera (further exacerbated by people at the edges). While this is true, you have to balance that against the fact that the photographer probably didn’t have a heck of a lot of time or options.
Biden is president, so he’s gonna have only a few minutes of time spare for the photo op. Carter is a former president and in his 90s, so he’s gonna have only a little while left on earth. The Carter’s’ house probably isn’t set up for photoshoots, and it looks like Carter is too old to stand for the length of a flash exposure, so they were limited to interior rooms with chairs and a relatively presentable background.
So, given those constraints, he probably found himself in a spot where he couldn’t back up much and had to use an ultra wide and got what he could.
Personally, if I were the photographer, I’d be a lot more concerned with the fact that I cut off the edge of Carter’s toes and got Biden in a half-squint, but I forgive him somewhat because he was clearly distracted by the raw sexual energy of Rosalynn Carter.
