Get the 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 IS instead, especialy when using it on APS-C.
Conventional wisdom says your minimum shutterspeed on the long end is 1/500.
And at f/5.6 that means you'll need a rather high ISO unless its in broad daylight with no clouds.
And that's before stopping it down for more sharpness.
1/500 at f/8 means you'll be operating your sensor at ISO 1600-3200 when clouds come up and god forbid there are trees providing shade...
With IS you can set the shutterspeed to 1/125 and save 2 stops of ISO.
So instead of ISO 1600-3200 you're running ISO 400-800.
With FF that's less of an issue as the equivalent focal length is shorter and the sensor has less noise.
