start doing local concerts and venues, hand out cards, I drop them in the musicians guitar cases, hand them out. Will get you paid gigs, promo shots, cd covers etc By doing this I was able to do tons on paid photography (and video) over the years, met many of famous musicians, did photos for bands (old and new) in theatres, concert venues, backstage etc.
It's tough at first as you are building up to well paid gigs. But that's part of the fun, I will not trade those unpaid days starting off for anything. But you got to get out there and let those bands see your work and your name.
