is this the best frame you got? asking because it's pretty blurry. when shooting the moon, the trick is to get a lot of frames and pick the one with the least amount of atmospheric turbulence.

Here are the reasons the picture is bad, so far as I can tell:
1) I am bad at focusing a 1000mm Rubinar
2) I am bad at tracking a moon with a 1000mm Rubinar on a 2x teleconverter
3) I should have brought the shutter-release cable
4) I didn't know how to set the K-10D timer
etc.

He's not wrong, but I started this thread so that people who took moonsnaps recently could post them and get some dopamine thereby, even though my guess is that anyone who takes a moonsnap does so because they like taking moonsnaps and not because they think their moonsnaps bring anything new or interesting to the table.

astro is more about the technical aspect and the science then it is about creating beautiful images.

At least to me. like there's just something really cool about photographing a galaxy or a nebula and knowing that YOU light years away, captured it.

Clouds and mountains prevented me from getting a shot of the supermoon on the horizon. I like this one best of the shots I took. AF kept wanting to pull in on random crap so I had to use MF, and I just can't get things perfectly sharp with MF. Perhaps my aperture was too far open. Oh well.

you answered your own question i think. oversaturation of literally anything you want to see at your fingertips so regular moon shoots aren't special. the ones i take are mine though, thats something for me.

I love this thread, there are so many interesting ways to frame something as ubiquitous as the Moon and I love to see what photographers come up with.

The Moon is also something that's very hard to photograph well so it's kind of an intermediate subject

This >>3890458 was taken with a crappy 25 dollar manual 500mm (800mm equiv). It's not gonna give the sharpest, coolest pics of the moon, but it does give a pretty good size. Here's the original size of it in the frame.

There's a lot made for the FD mount that are basically identical but under different manufacturer names. Mine's by Kimunor but that's not the only name you can search to find it. You can pick one up for around 25 bucks on ebay, though look into the clones as well.

Here's some moons.

I was just trying to get Jupiter and Saturn, I honestly didn't expect to see anything else. I also had no idea how much of the sky Jupiter's moons actually take up, and how bright they are. This was less than a second of exposure and only 300mm zoom.
