Guys, I have a question.
What is the /p/ equivalent of a classic Thinkpad?

I would propose 5D/5D2 from Canon and D700 from Nikon.

Lenses I’m not so sure about. Maybe either native nifty primes, or adapted M42 Helios.

I used to rock this setup for about 2 years. Took this setup with me across China pre-COVID. Great camera and a fantastic lens. My favorite lens hands down. Only problem was the K1 itself. Too slow, AF too cumbersome, battery life not long enough. I ended up moving to a Nikon D850 which blows the K1 out of the water and all my complaints re the Pentax are now gone…but damned if I don't miss that lens.

I know exactly what you mean and in my opinion it is absolutely the Fujifilm X-T2.

Ways in which it compares to /g/'s ThinkPad obsession: Perfectly capable if a bit dated, however it's not TOO old, missing some quality of life updates more modern tech has but it's excels at the basics, huge used market and you can get one of these for VERY cheap compared to an X-T4; we're talking like $450 dirt cheap here, rugged build quality with a highly aesthetic retro look, tons of users of /p/ have one of these and swear by them, and tons of users of /p/ fucking hate them!

So exactly like ThinkPads on /g/.

So if you have a used ThinkPad and you love it and you want to continue the theme, get yourself a used X-T2. I really want one myself

Also it's a way for stealth weebs to express themselves because the X-T2 was made in Japan and it says it right on the back in big white bold letters MADE IN JAPAN. X-T3 and X-T4 can't say that anymore because production moved to China.

honestly, a fuji x-t2 and an adapted lens. something like an olympus 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.7

I have a D7200 too and have tried out my mate's D700 with the 35f2 D(also a very solid lens imo)

wtf i didn't know this camera existed.

Also I'm just starting to appreciate how nice the 7200 sounds and feels. It really does have a great shutter button with the soft press.

It was not gentle, as I understand it. They had the camera slung around their body, the strap accidentally got looped on a bench, and they stood up with the amount of force that it takes for a human to lift themselves off of a bench.

Peak Design straps are sturdy. Humans are sturdy. Benches are sturdy. The weak link turned out to be the Fuji. Which doesn't necessarily mean they're not sturdy in general, just that it was the weakest link in this particular scenario.

This. The newest ThinkPads are rubbish. I have to use them at work and even with plenty of ram they're slow, have driver issues, dock issues and poor battery. Ergonomics are quite bad too.

I'd be asking which camera is the M1 MacBook.

Fantastic upgrade to my 2016 pro. Renders video just as fast as my i7 8700. You wouldn't know that because you don't own one. Thanks for your input though.

i will always argue that the minolta 7000 is just a really solid, cheap piece slr body. a-mount is a bit of a pain but not that bad and the camera if it doesn't have bad aperture magnets is just a solid brick that integrates the basics of microprocessor controlled slrs that would succeed it without overcomplicating the entire interface in menubutton hell.
the 9000 has similar build quality but has more moving parts that are likely to break because of it's weird half manual half micro design and because of that loses some points. it's also just way more expensive to actually own a functioning one and the interface sucks a little(but not nearly as much as every minolta camera afterwards until the 600si).

the i/xi/si series is really strange because minolta had this weird vision in a pre-aps world for more advanced film cameras but ended up autisming themselves out of what EOS would become because they didn't really know how to design a user interface to save their lives(that and the stupid fucking creative cards system)
