Maybe he didn't say "I think smartphones are better at photography than dedicated cameras". Maybe he said "I get better pictures with my smartphone than I do with a DSLR", or "If you're going to a party, you'd be better off taking pictures with a smartphone than with a big camera", or even "I'd rather have a smartphone than a dedicated camera because they can do more".
They can definitely both be right if they're actually arguing different things and there was a miscommunication somewhere along the way.
Like in the first half of my reply--it seems like I'm disagreeing with you, but if you're actually arguing "If I met you in real life, I'd think you're a cunt" and I'm arguing "Most people who meet me in real life think I'm not a cunt", it's entirely possible for both of those things to be true because you're an angry little misanthrope who thinks everyone's a cunt.
