hello /p/ ive been doing photog for about 11 years now, as a hobby, im 26 now, sick and tired of doing administration work for god damn idiotic companies, i want to make photography my career, not this stupid keyboard monkey shit. I do mostly portraits of strangers, street, nature and similar. Every few years i throw about 5 grand on new bodies or lenses or gear or whatever i need to upgrade, so im pretty much all set to go pro and i have an idea as to how to go about it but dont really know how to apply it into real world. Where to start? how to find clients? Do i make a portfolio/website with best pictures I already have now or later on as i find clients? Are there tips, tricks or crucial things i need to know in order to make the start easier? I need help, please, i dont want to work these shitty "jobs" i love photography and i want to make THAT my job.

Even if it's not paid pieces, it shows what you're capable of and getting a website sorted in the beginning makes sense.
Good luck, friend.

>sick and tired of doing administration work for god damn idiotic companies I know a couple of people who make a living with photography and they all do product photography and video and other business related shit. I also know a girl who has photography as her side thing for extra cash and she does pet photography, sessions for couples, weddings like once a year or so, family pics and shit although it seems like dealing with people is harder, shittier and you make less money. Either way these people are very social and have tried to monetize their photography skills from very early on, have big social circles and social media. It feels like it's more about your social/convincing skills and social media game than photography skill The fact that you've been doing photography for 11 years and have no idea where even to start and ask 4chan for advice is not a good sign but good luck anyway

take portraits of famous people. Then charge less famous people more money for photos so they can feel important. It really shouldn't take you more than a year to get a solid portfolio

I met a kid at an IG meetup a few years ago named Jordan (from Toronto). He quickly learned he wasn't going to go anywhere by attending meetups and shooting for free. He kind of made himself scarce so more people wanted to shoot with him. He's also some kind of finance guy for his 9-5 so he's loaded. Now he shoots at the most expensive studios and has really hot models from uk magazines and shit working with him. He learned early on don't go down the free path.

I don't want to reactivate my account just to find his last name, then I gotta wait a week to de-activate again.
Things like that.
