Alpaka, Peak Design, or Hex Ranger Sling? Looking for best option for Lumix g85, preferably waterproof. Leaning on grabbing the Alpaka Go Sling Pro.

Quick tip from /out/: waterproof bags are expensive and rarely properly waterproof. You will get a better bag for less money that you can put a heavy duty bin liner in and not have to worry about leaks.

Amazon Basics ripped off the Peak Design to an obvious degree, going as far as to mimic their promo pics, too. However, at half the price of the Peak Design bags I am considering an Amazon Basic knock off. Maybe.

I like the hex ranger mini sling, I carried my Olympus m1 mk3 in it with the big 16mm. F1.4 Sigma on it no problem. Also had a hero 8, 3 spare Olympus batteries, 6 GoPro batteries, power bank, filters, and cables. I was surprised it could hold all of it. Perfect mini sling when exploring cities when I was traveling this past year. I have the large hex ranger too and it's really big but comes with the little rain jacket tucked in the bag to use.

Yes, I should have mentioned I am looking at the mini. I have a larger Brevite Jumper bag I use for short film shoots and looking for a sling type for street stuff. The Hex Ranger Mini Sling and Alpaka Go Sling Pro seem the way to go. I'm leaning toward the Alpaka b/c of the port.

The Alpaka is pretty cool with the port I will say. It is a cheaper bag compared to the Hex Ranger Mini. Since you're mainly shooting the Panasonic g85 it's the perfect fit if you're not going to be carrying so much more. Definitely two solid choices!

I've got a Peak Design 5L sling, an earlier version to the current revision. I don't know what they changed. But it's pretty good. I hate the look of their other stuff but the sling is alright. It can fit 2 of my cameras comfortably inside and have room to spare for film, a microfiber cloth, et cerera. But it isn't so big that it's bulky. I actually didn't use it for a while after I got it because I didn't see the point, but then I started to "get" it and actually bring it with me for photoshoots. It was annoying to get it adjusted properly for me but once I did I'm good now. One annoying thing is that when you take stuff out of the bag, the zipper is facing inside, so you have to be careful not to scrape the camera body against the metal zipper. It would be better if there was fabric on the underside of it to prevent having to worry about that.

I think I'm passing on Peak Design b/c the Alpaka equivalent includes the charging port. Minor detail but the Go Sling Pro is the same price and nearly identical. Thanks, though.

That's something to consider. My Brevite bag looks like any other backpack but all the sling type bags do have a rather specialized look/design. Know of any ordinary messenger bags with padding? I do have a weather resistant leather messenger bag but it's not suitable for running and gunning.

Patagonia Black Hole Mini messneger. Solid stuff, looks like a regular bag, holds FF DSLR with 100mm lens, flash and diffuser easily. I never felt I need extra padding for my gear, maybe with more fragile bodies this could be the case.
This or any big enough regular bag, that won't scream "I have expensive gear".

what about mountainsmith? they are more /out/ oriented but I've been considering one myself because I do more /out/ than /p/ but I don't see why anyone can't store a camera and some batteries in there.

For countryside stuff I have a hip pack/Assault back thats supposed to be a waist bag, but with the straps extended makes a good walkaround one. For City stuff I went to a cheap Indian shop. Bought a big np brand lined messenger and keep my kit in neoprene sleeves.
For years I used an old gas mask case till the canvas wore through.

Really digging the Alpaka Go Sling Pro. Looks more like a small lunch bag than something holding expensive gear, to be honest. It can hold my cam, a pair of small lenses, a phone, kindle, and a few other small items. The port is a cool little accessory. Yet to find any real faults with the bag but that's not saying much since it's my first sling bag. Thanks everyone for the recs and opinions.

Peak design slings are done really well, enjoy mine alot. The alpaka one's zipper placement looks really annoying, much smaller and poorly placed (middle vs at the edge). Peak's dividers are also a winner, and their customer service is incredible. I also think the alpaka is ugly with it's huge logo and overal boxy look although that's subjective ig. For me it's not close though, I'd get the peak every time.
