In general photographs should almost always appear a bit flat to an extent because the majority of digital displays are severely lacking in contrast. Attempting to make a photo look more contrasty is a workaround, all that really matters are the tones. You can always get contrasty metallic prints instead, where you don't need to clip things to increase contrast. Or view them on an OLED.
