Same with the APS-C but the letdown for me was the lack of IBIS. Im ok with APS-C since I use MFT but I want IBIS. If it had IBIS I will preorder. Still I'm so happy for Nikon. I know all who will get this camera will like it.

Nikon probably doesn't have much supply in general because few people care about their cameras at this point.

They basically took a Z50, re-skinned it, and increased the price. Not very groundbreaking or worthwhile.

Yes you got that right. Not about competing the best like what Sony does. Nikon Z Fc is looking good. I can live without IBIS as well with my Nikon DSLRs but IBIS is so good to have.

I have a ton of Nikkor F lenses that I want to use on this Nikon Z Fc and IBIS might be useful.

Sadly as a DSLR shooter as well. Nikon is slowly abandoning it. I wish Nikon created this on an F mount but of course they won't do that because they want us buying Z lenses. But oh well.... I'm still hoping they will create a Nikon D880 so especially since that will lower the price of the D850. But I'm actually fine with the D780.

I believe the point of this camera is targeting other markets to make enough money. They don't need to be always competing with Canon and Sony. I showed this to my friends and non photographers are interested.

Glad I got my preorder in. Wasn't 100% sure I wanted it but I knew I could preorder now and sort my feelings out on it later. And now I'm sold on it and I can't wait. It's a nice camera. But the lens mount is too big for aps-c. A smaller lens mount with smaller lenses would be better. It has a small view finder compared to the X-T4 and there is no 23mm prime lens.

I've been married to Nikon since I got a Coolpix point and shoot in 2005 with I was 13, but I've always lusted after the Fuji X series' form factor and retro style. I've always loved those manual dials. I really came close to switching to Fuji earlier this year, I even got outbid on an X-T2 by like 10 seconds. But now I don't have to switch ecosystems, just get an FTZ adapter and stay in the family. Also Nikon users would never say that only boomers buy something in a negative light because only boomers buy Nikon. Nikon boomers are the whole community. I'm 30 this year, that counts as a boomer on 4chan. What we say is vloggers and 20 year old "60 MINUTES OF SOOTHING (obnoxious) STREET PHOTOGRAPHY" influencers buy Sony, Canon, and Fuji, and the less I have to look like them the better.

Yep, I preordered the amber brown one actually. I was on the fence too, also considering going with the Z5. IBIS is nice but there's a somewhat small window of shutter speeds where it's useful. Too fast and it won't make a difference, too slow and it won't be able to compensate enough. And a lot of Nikkor lenses have VR built in and that should be enough. The FF vs Crop thing is a big consideration. Personally I love crop sensors because I shoot telephoto a lot and I like the extra reach and the pixel density, and I've never been one to like extreme bokeh that FF can get you. So it was the right fit for me, but a Z5 for the same price is worth considering.

but the zfc looks so coooool so honestly I just clicked preorder without fully thinking it through, knowing I could cancel later. But I'm glad I did.

Good analogy with the IBIS. I just don't think that Nikon will create a new set of VR lenses just for this one and they might just release a Nikon Z Fc2 with VR after 4 years. However they might not make a replacement for this one like the Df and look how the Df still sells for $1500 used now while the D4 with better specs and video can be had for $1000 now. Retro styling body adds lifespan lol.

Do you still have a lot of F mount lenses? I still have almost 15 f mount lenses and want to use them with IBIS. Also agreed that zfc looks so cool. I have like 8 nikon film bodies lol.

All these boomers getting triggered and saying Nikon ruined their brand by releasing Nikon Z Fc. But in reality Nikon is tired of marketing towards them and they won't even buy Nikon cameras. Even Ken Rockwell prefers Canon now.
Camera makers need a new target market. They don't need to target the same old "professionals" and "rich amateurs". What they need to target are women, vloggers, casual shooters and people who want to get into photography. Nikon Z Fc did just that.

I guess that depends on what your definition of “big” is. I know I stopped taking my camera with me everywhere when i switched from fuji x-t2 to nikon z6. So it was big enough for me to think twice if i was just going to grab coffee or lunch or something. It’s handy to have something compact for more casual shooting. Pic related.

The 50 1.2 is pretty versatile if you can swing it. I have one that stays glued to my F3 alongside an ultra-rare Yashma 300 f2.8 Russian lens. The 105/2.5 in all optical formulas is a solid addition and optically excellent, find a silvernose pre-AI that has been converted, they have a Sonnar formula and swirly bokeh and the same sharpness the later double-Gauss has.

I don't get that issue personally. The only things really pocketable are Ricoh GR/Sony RX100 et al. Anything bigger isn't going to fit in a pocket. And the Sony RX100/Ricoh GR image quality is getting matched by even mid tier smart phones for close up stuff so I rather just my phone than carry my RX100 these days. If I want something good I want full frame and shit like a Z6/A7iii etc are all pretty damn compact. We aren't talking Nikon F5 or some gripped Pro DSLR here.

the 16-42 with up to 84mm focal length eq. is pretty much pancake compared to Fuji and FF lenses. It has reliability issues though but can be easily repaired

I've got both ordered. I re-ordered the brown one as soon as I woke up out of anger and you can't cancel orders on Nikon without calling customer service. The black one gets here August 4th. It's just through Amazon so it's effortless to return and has a long return policy. If it comes back into stock on Nikon's site and ships, I'll return the black one. If it's still backordered in a few weeks which I expect, I'll call customer service and cancel it. Needlessly expensive and stupid way to buy a meme camera, maybe, but whatever.

Also I don't think the silver reflection thing will be THAT big of a deal. It's a really matte silver.

How useful even is weather sealing? Honest question. I mean can you just let you camera take timelapses in the middle of rain? Or is it insurance against a few drops.

Very nice. Haven't had a lot of time to dig into it much yet, just did some auto mode and A mode snapshitting to test it. But the menu interface is the same as Nikon always is so it's familiar. Although it is kind of awkward to hold with one hand like I expected. It's heavy and wants to torque out of my fingers. So a strap is a must if you're carrying it with you anywhere. Manual dials are firm and clicky but easy to twist. EVF is an EVF so it can only get so good but it's pretty good, very big and bright. This is my first mirrorless so it'll take some getting used to. I really like how the kit lens feels, compared to the huge and ugly f-mount DX 18-55 at least. Smooth and wide, and actually has pretty impressive VR for such a cheap lens. f/6.3 for a 50mm is painfully slow, though. I'll keep this lens around for video and lightning photography but I would like to grab that 28 f/2.8 eventually.

Really hope Nikon invests in more DX specific lenses now that they have another APS-C to support.
