Normies have boring taste. I quit social media years ago. When I had it I had the same experience. Lazy snapshit on the beach? All the likes, heart emojis, etc. A portrait, landscape, or still life that I poured a lot of time and effort into? Tepid at best. Maybe my work sucks or maybe NPCs can only process traditional feel-good imagery. Or maybe both.

Anon It may have meaning for you, but if you're blinded by it, you won't be able to understand "why" people appreciate the other pictures.

That picture of trees is absolutely boring, and regardless of who took it, I would scroll right past it. Have you ever stopped to consider why they like it in a non-cynical way? Do I want to shoot like that for the sake of gaining attention? Do I share their sense of style? And most importantly, can i shoot like that?

That’s a fair point. I like low contrast black and white but I realize a lot of people don’t. Nor is that my best image by any stretch, I’m just trying not to be a seething no-photo. However, I’ve dabbled in many styles over the years, from disgusting hipster lomography to meme portraits at f/1.2, etc. I’ve noticed the same pattern every time. I think some of it is that normies use social media to share what they’re doing/their experiences, whereas I was just trying to share a neat image:

Even within the world of f1.2 meme portraits, there's a lot of garbage that doesn't attract people's attention because it's badly done.

You might come across an Instagram page with god awful photos that has a lot of followers, but you can just ignore them and look for one with objectively good work to see what they're doing that you're doing wrong.
