I want to get a camera + lens for about max 350, don't mind used stuff.
I'm completly new to photography but I am most into portrait photogrphy with blurry backgrounds and maybe some "street photography", photos of buildings, objects and the ocasional landscape for the gram.
What do you recommend? I have my eye on the nikon d5100 with a 50mm lens

You answered your own question. I wouldn't recommend a prime to an absolute beginner it's a good one after the kit. Buy used, imo get the kit lens with the d5100 and the 50mm.

My only reservation with Nikon is lens compatibility. Some newer bodies can't use some older lenses, and only the newest lenses adapt well to mirrorless. Other than that, plenty of good deals in older DSLRs and lenses.

Canon has similar good deals on old equipment, but with universal lens compatibility from the first EF lens to the latest RF body.

In either mount, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM EX (the one before the ART series) is affordable and has awesome bokeh. This used to be my portrait lens on crop (85mm equiv).

I would say you definitely want a 50mm for portraits, and then either a kit zoom or a 35 prime for street.

What cameras on the canon side would be equivalent to the d3200 and d5200 series? If they are about the same price and same performance I will highly consider them, especially since I want to one day go for more compact mirrorless bodies and keep the image quality. Right now I am all about bang for buck though

lol, I use a D200 very often. Resolution not a problem unless you are making prints above 8x10. The CCD colors from the D200 are, in my opinion, absolutely beautiful.

I got into /p/haggotry with a D5300 and a 18-55mm lens kit, no regrets. Got a 55-200mm that I rarely use and a 35mm prime that I absolutely love. All of my gear is second hand. As anon said, lots of available lenses/bodies if you know where to look, I'd recommend your local goybook marketplace.

The competing cameras at the time were Rebels like the T4i, T5i, etc. For that time period though, I would look for a 60D. It's not going to cost much more but is a better camera in terms of body/features.

In fairness to Nikon, the 24mp sensor they were using at the time was better than the 18mp sensor Canon was using. The resolution difference doesn't matter all that much in this case, but the 24mp sensor did have better base ISO DR and was a little less noisy at high ISOs.
