Speaking of gear, might as well gear post in here until the new thread. And speaking of D500s I think I'm finally ready to make the jump to a D500. My D5500 has been excellent to learn with and I'm too fond of it to ever sell it, but it does hold me back. Really want a bright pentaprism viewfinder, a higher res LCD screen, and more focus points. I tend to miss focus a lot. Plus double the continuous shooting and like 50% more battery life would be nice. $1000 seems to be the average price on ebay. Pricey for such an old camera but really not bad for such a good one. Less than a Z fc and an FTZ. And I'm all in on APS-C, it's the only format I care about. As for lenses I'll probably stick with my cheap DX 70-300 for now. It seems to do the job.
I'll keep the D5500 around as a back up, in case I ever go storm chasing.
