To make them consistent I base them on the photo's resolution.
For 3:2 photos I use this rule:
>longer side multiplied with 0.1
>shorter side multiplied with 0.3
So, for example, on a 3000x2000 image I'll add 300 pixels on the long side and 600 pixels on the short side.
