Any early EOS is fine. You might wanna consider something from the T series (T30, T50, T70, T90) since FD glass is cheaper than EF.

Does autofocus speed depend on the lens or the camera ?

It's kind of okay but the consumer level EOS cameras do not have focusing aids in their viewfinder so shooting with manual lenses is dissatisfying.
If you get it with an AF lens it will be fine.

EF-M has split/microprism ring screen and uses EF mount lenses. What it does not have is autofocus. It was cheap camera new and really cheap at some point, dunno now.

AF is highly overrated. sure it's nice. but 95% of the time I just use it as a shortcut to turning the focus wheel. whenever I use a manual lens I never miss it.

I suggest trying out zone focus once in a while. you'll realize it's very rare that you need to be dead in focus every time. It's only when you're shooting wide open that AF really shines. But that's another meme I won't get into.

Eos 650/620 tend to be cheaper. And you can replace the screen and manually focus.

AF reliability and AF low-light performance gets better the more cash you spend but the lens determines the speed of response.

I've a brand new 24-70 F4/L lens bought in 2020 for my EOS 650 --- AF and IS work perfectly. That's probaly EF's biggest benefit over F

As you can see, the quality of the photograph is not dependant on the quality of the lens. It is a good lens. I am not good with a camera

I recently picked up a Ricoh KR-10 (non super) and took my first dip into film photography. Is there a consensus on this camera? I picked it on a whim from a second hand shop.
I'll be posting photos soon as soon as I can get them off the CD.

You don't need AF especially on something like the T90 and if you want an FD camera better get one now, hipsters are blowing up the AE1 right now but they haven't discovered the T90 yet which is vastly superior.

T90 is fine. It feels a little like a prototype EOS - which it sort of is.

Positives in its favour are a faster drive, faster shutter, backlit display and the fact that it runs on dogshit common AA Batteries.

Negatives --- the metering isn't as advanced in auto-mode and the user interface is a bit clunky. It's not a fully finished concept.

I'm sort of torn between it and the early EOS --- I've a lot of FD lenses and it gives me EOS-like performance with them and reliable automation
