Conversation usually follows similar patterns; What is your name? Where do you come from? Are you here alone? How many children do you have? What do you think of (insert city)? And you ask about their family, their job/school, practice a few words in their language.
It takes just a few minutes of your time, you give their day a little lift and you find it has given your day a lift as well. It changes your perception of the place you are in, usually in a good way.
The pictures you take are just snapshits, of course, not much use for anything but you know what? Years later when you are sifting through you archives and you find those pictures again you get a warm fuzzy feeling and you realise that those encounters were just as important as anything else you experienced on that trip.
